The Huntington Beach Seahawks, a seventh-grade All-Net team in National Junior Basketball, took center stage at the Honda Center on Saturday to compete at the 2008 NJB John Wooden Tournament.

The Seahawks won their division title by defeating the Irvine Stars, 34-30.

With two minutes left in the title game, the Seahawks trailed by seven points. But behind a pressure defense and full-court press, they were able to go on an 11-0 run to win the game.

The NJB event was part of a full day of youth and college basketball at the Honda Center. In the Wooden Classic later that day, St. Mary’s College defeated San Diego St. and UCLA defeated DePaul.

Lifeletics baseball camp begins Monday

The Lifeletics Winter Baseball Camp will begin Monday at Wardlow Park in Huntington Beach.

The camp — designed to push athletes mentally and physically while teaching baseball skills alongside valuable lessons in life that competition, hard work and teamwork can provide — will run through Dec. 27 at Wardlow Park, home to Huntington Valley Little League. The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. daily, but no camp will be held Christmas Day.

The cost is $195 per camper and $375 for two siblings. The Lifeletics Baseball Camp has taken the traditional station-to-station youth camp and infused a positive and high-energy attitude. Athletes are challenged with fundamental stations in pitching, hitting, infield and outfield, fire through an Olympics Day and compete in game play over the course of a five-day workout program.

Lifeletics Camp instructors include current and former professional players, including Kansas City Royal Luke Hudson (Fountain Valley High), Colorado Rockies player Cole Garner (La Quinta High), San Diego Padre Shane Buschini and James Sweeney (Colorado Rockies ‘01-04). Lifeletics staff professionals Dan Keller, Deric Yanagisawa, Brent Erickson and Bill Birinyi, round out the all-star coaching team.

All instructors have a minimum of college playing experience and high school coaching experience. To register for the camp, visit www.lifeletics.com.
