The Orange Coast College baseball team will open the Southern California Regionals at home on Saturday against an opponent to be determined.
Coach John Altobelli’s Pirates (31-4-1), ranked No. 1 in Southern California for most of the season, are the No. 1 seed in the SoCal bracket. They will play the winner of Tuesday’s single-elimination game between Los Angeles Valley (19-17) and Bakersfield (25-11), in a best-of-three series scheduled Saturday and Sunday.
Game 1 on Saturday is at 1 p.m. Game 2 begins Sunday at 11 a.m. and a rubber game, if necessary, will follow.
The regional series winners advance to the Super Regionals, a four-team double-elimination tournament that sends its winner to the four-team state championship event. The Super Regionals are May 11 through 13.
The state tournament is May 18-20 at Bakersfield College.
