Track teams do as they please

The Laguna Beach track and field boys’ and girls’ teams picked up Orange Coast League victories last week by defeating visiting Costa Mesa.
The Laguna girls won, 79-33, while the boys’ team won, 95-27.
Laguna girls’ event winners were: Tessa Hopper (100 meters); Marina Paul (800 meters); Darby Winson (100 and 300 hurdles); Carlee Ressler (1,600 meters); Audrey Rodriguez (3,200 meters); Marlee Grosher (long jump); Janie Crawford (triple jump).
Laguna boys’ event winners were: Tyler Nichols (800 meters); Spencer Anderson (110 hurdles); Christian Menes (300 hurdles); Avery Crowl (long jump); Nico Bevilaqua (triple jump); Kilar Pike (high jump); Ricky Delatorre (shot put, discus); Jeff White (3,200 meters).
The Breakers are scheduled to compete Saturday at the Orange County Championships.

Boys’ Golf
The Breakers split their last two matches, defeating Sage Hill, 193-217, on April 4 at Aliso Viejo Country Club, and fell, 200-224, to host San Clemente on April 5 at Talega Golf Course.
In Laguna’s win over Sage Hill, Breaker Tim Peterson was the low medalist with even-par 35. Tyler Metez shot a personal best 39.
“This was a great win for us in that all the players shot well as a team,” Laguna Coach Scott Finn said.
The Breakers are back in action Tuesday with a 2:30 p.m. home match against Estancia at Aliso Viejo Country Club. They also host Costa Mesa at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Aliso Viejo CC.

Boys’ Tennis
The Breakers are idle this week but before the start of spring break, they fell, 13-5, in an April 5 nonleague match at Cerritos. Teague Hamilton, at No. 1 singles for the Breakers, earned 6-3, 6-0, 6-0 wins. Morgan Lebby, at No. 2 singles, won two of three sets (3-6, 6-4, 6-1).
Laguna has one match on tap next week. The Breakers travel to Santa Ana Valley High on Thursday for a 3:15 p.m. Orange Coast League match against Godinez. The Breakers are 5-0 in league and in first place.

Swimming
Both the boys’ and girls’ swim teams have been off since March 28. Both squads return to Orange Coast League competition Wednesday for a 3:15 p.m. meet at Saddleback. Both Laguna teams are 3-0 in league.
The Breakers also have an April 25 home league meet with Costa Mesa before the league prelims start May 1 at Costa Mesa.

Boys’ Volleyball
The Breakers, idle since April 4, have two Orange Coast League matches next week, starting with a 5:30 p.m. Tuesday contest at Saddleback. They also hit the road Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. match at Estancia.
Laguna (14-7) leads the league standings at 4-0.
