Long Beach State 4, UC Irvine 3
LONG BEACH — The Anteaters squandered a 3-1 lead, giving up three runs in the final two innings in the Big West Conference game Saturday.
The Dirtbags’ Matt Duffy lined a full-count pitch to centerfield to score Johnny Bekakis for the game-winning hit.
UCI (20-15, 5-6 in conference) took the early lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Connor Spencer and a steal of home base by Jordan Fox. Christian Ramirez hit a clutch, two-out single up the middle to score Scott Gottschling from second to give UCI a 3-0 lead.
Long Beach State is 17-19, 8-3.
The series concludes Sunday at 1 p.m.

Doubleheader
EL CAJON — Brandon Young had a big day at the plate as visiting Vanguard University swept San Diego Christian in a pair of Golden State Athletic Conference games Saturday.
The senor outfielder was two for three with two runs batted in and three runs scored in a 15-7 triumph in Game 2.
In a 7-6 Game 1 win in 10 innings, Young was three for three with three RBIs and one run.
Bryce Arroyo had two hits, including a home run, and five RBIs in the second game, in which David Kiriakos and Henry Yates also had three hits apiece. Yates drove in three runs and scored two, while Kiriakos scored three and drove in one.
Eric Sanchez was two for three with two RBIs for the Lions in Game 2.
J.T. Truhett was two for five and scored the winning run in the top of the 10th when Adonis Tountas was hit by a pitch.
Gabe Garcia pitched the bottom of the 10th for his first save, giving Tucker Woods the victory in Game 1.
Vanguard improved to 20-18, 10-16 in conference.
SDC is 18-28, 10-17.

Doubleheader
COSTA MESA — Sophomore third baseman Brittany Colenzo was six for six combined in two games to help the host Lions sweep a pair from Hope International in Golden State Athletic Conference play Saturday.
Colenzo was four for four with three runs batted in and two runs scored in a 9-1 win in Game 1. She had a triple and a double.
In a 3-1 Game 2 victory, Colenzo was two for two with a triple and one RBI.
Freshman Breanne Gomez was five for seven with two RBIs in the two games for Vanguard (32-22, 8-8 in conference).
Rachel Stalford allowed five hits in a complete-game to earn the Game 2 win and Stacie Salazar worked five scoreless innings for the Game 1 win.
Hope International is 26-28, 4-12.

MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Mt. SAC Relays
WALNUT — UC Irvine seniors Charles Jock and Jacob Yowell each had a fifth-place finish Saturday.
Jock, a two-time All-American, finished fifth in the Invitational Elite 800 meters with a time of 1 minute, 47.15 at Hilmer Lodge Stadium. It was his first 800 race of the season.
Yowell was fifth in the Olympic Development Elite 110 hurdles in 14.19 seconds.
