Football: Huntington Beach wins Southwest title

Huntington Beach scored three touchdowns in a 45-second span midway through the fourth quarter on its way to a 42-28 victory over Sunset League rival Newport Harbor in the Southwest Division championship game at Angel Stadium.
Kai Ross broke a 21-21 tie with a 52-yard scoring pass to Nolan Thompson and added two interception returns for touchdowns 10 seconds apart. Ross also had scoring tosses to Maurice Barber and Levi Ison and Travis Heer ran for a score as the Oilers (9-5) won their first section crown and first football title since 1935.
Ross completed 10 of 12 passes for 219 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 90 yards and Barber had three catches for 129 yards. Nolan Thompson and Hunter Simmons also had touchdown receptions for the Oilers.
Cole Norris threw for 236 yards and two touchdowns, Quest Truxton caught nine passes for 105 yards and Cory Stowell had four catches for 61 yards and one touchdown for the Sailors (8-6).
