UC Applications

Some readers may have gained the impression from your article (Feb. 25) on “Counseling for College” that UC Berkeley received fewer undergraduate applications in the past year than Stanford or UCLA (and, therefore, was perhaps easier to enter). In fact, Berkeley’s record total of undergraduate applications received last year was 18,495 (not 11,313), and that was higher than the total for any of the other schools.
This year we expect Berkeley’s total to drop a little, partly because we are not accepting applications from students at the sophomore level. Also, we are encouraging more students to enroll for the first two years at selected community colleges and then transfer to Berkeley under a new “space reserved” plan.
