UCLA Beats USC for Pac-10 Lead in Tennis; Kures Upsets Witsken

UCLA swept the first five singles matches, including an upset victory at No. 1 by Michael Kures, and defeated USC, 5-4, Saturday in their Pacific 10 Southern Division tennis match before 3,000 fans at the Los Angeles Tennis Stadium at UCLA.
Kures, who is ranked ninth nationally, scored a 6-3, 7-5 win over fourth-ranked Todd Witsken to key the Bruin victory. The Trojans made it close by winning all three doubles matches.
The win moved UCLA (7-1 in conference, 23-3 overall) into first place, one-half game ahead of Stanford (6-1) and one game ahead of the Trojans (6-2, 27-3).
