A 30-year-old Garden Grove man was shot and wounded Sunday morning as he chased a burglary suspect, police said.
Charles Johnson was reported in stable condition at UCI Medical Center with a gunshot wound he suffered in the 3 a.m. incident.
Officers who answered a call to a condominium complex in the 880 block of Brookdale Drive said they were met in the alley by Johnson, who told them a burglar was in his garage.
While they were searching the garage, police said, the burglary suspect fled across the street with Johnson in pursuit, and the officers followed. Police said the burglar fired, and they found the wounded Johnson on the ground.
Officers cordoned off the area, and the search, including police dogs and a helicopter, was conducted until after daybreak, but the suspect, described as a white male, 5 feet 9 and stockily built, was not found.
