3 Picketers Hurt, 4 Arrested
Three Teamsters Union picketers were injured and four were arrested outside the gates of a Lucky Discount Supermarkets warehouse in Irvine early today in the first outbreak of violence in the day-old strike by meat cutters and Teamsters.
A union spokesman said a car, presumably driven by a non-union worker, ran through the picket line at the employees’ gate, throwing one picketer onto the hood. Police reinforcements were called in and arrested four men on charges of obstructing a sidewalk and assaulting an officer. By noon, police numbered about 50 and picketers about 100 at the warehouse.
