Santa Ana : Senator Moves Against Jailed Lottery Winners

Saying that even Monopoly players who land in “jail” don’t get to collect the money, Republican state Sen. William Campbell of Hacienda Heights criticized the decision to release Salvador Valencia Rodriguez from Orange County Jail this week to spin the lottery wheel on television.
Campbell said he will introduce legislation next year that would prohibit inmates from participating in the televised “big spin.” It also would prohibit the current practice of allowing people in custody to designate an alternate.
Campbell said the decision to release Rodriguez, 20, of Santa Ana, who won $50,000, was “absurd in the extreme.”
