Five Class A yachts in the San Diego-to-Manzanillo race were locked in a battle for the lead Monday after 43 hours of sailing in the 1,100-mile downwind slide.
Still leading the 28-boat fleet was Pat Farah’s 62-foot sloop Ragtime, out of Long Beach Yacht Club, but Doug Baker’s 68-foot Saga was only a mile astern.
At the 8 a.m. roll call Monday, Ragtime was 693 miles from the finish, indicating that she had logged 407 miles since the start last Saturday at 1 p.m.
Saga reported a position 694 miles from Manzanillo. John Landon’s Santa Cruz-70 Kathmandu, had 697 miles to go, and Jake Wood’s 82-foot Sorcery and Fred Frye’s 68-foot Prima were in a virtual tie with 697 miles to go.
