About 200 Burbank teachers picketed in front of Jefferson Elementary School Tuesday in a show of support for other district instructors embroiled in a contract dispute.
Representatives of the Burbank Teachers Assn. staged the demonstration after school and no classes were disrupted.
Talks between the district and teachers over their eight-month contract dispute were scheduled Tuesday night. Another mediation session is planned for Saturday.
The district last offered an across-the-board salary increase of 3%, plus a one-time bonus of 3.5% of teachers’ annual salaries. Those bonuses would be paid with some of the California Lottery funds the district will receive from the state.
But the teachers are seeking an across-the-board salary increase of 5.5%, plus the 3.5% bonus payment.
The salaries fall under a renegotiation clause covering the last year of a three-year contract that expires June 30.
