Cal Poly Pomona Women Play Bellarmine in NCAA Quarterfinals

Cal Poly Pomona, defending NCAA Division II women’s basketball champion, will play host to Bellarmine College of Louisville, Ky., in an NCAA quarterfinal tonight at 7:30 in Pomona’s Kellogg Gym.
Cal Poly Pomona, ranked first in the country in all eight Division II polls during the season, is 27-3 and has won 20 games in a row. The Broncos won the Western Regional with a 66-46 victory Tuesday over Cal State Northridge behind the play of guard Michelle McCoy, who made 15 of 21 shots and scored 31 points. The victory ran the Broncos’ record against Division II competition to 17-0.
Cal Poly Pomona is now 13-2 in NCAA postseason play under Coach Darlene May, having won NCAA titles in 1982 and 1985. The Broncos are led by McCoy and All-American center Vicki Mitchell, who averages 15 points and 11.3 rebounds.
Bellarmine is 23-6 and was ranked 20th in the last poll.
