SAN DIEGO — Khatmandu, the winner of the Commodore Trophy for being the first boat to finish Saturday, was named the winner in the Ultra-Light Displacement Boats division of the 19th annual Marina del Rey to San Diego Yacht Race Sunday afternoon.
Khatmandu, a 68-foot Santa Cruz boat from the San Diego Yacht Club, departed from the Windjammers’ Yacht Club in Marina del Rey Friday at 11 a.m. and arrived at San Diego’s Southwestern Yacht Club Saturday shortly after 4 a.m.
After establishing its adjusted time (some boats’ times are handicapped), it was announced that Khatmandu had the best time in the ULDB Class A division. The boat Cheetah, from the Long Beach Yacht Club, was second, nearly 30 seconds slower than Khatmandu. Another boat from Long Beach, Ragtime, was third.
In the Interactive Offshore Rule Class A division, the boat Lady Godiva was piloted to a first-place finish by Victor Fargo of the Southwestern Yacht Club. Love Machine 5, piloted by Hubie and Sandy Kerns of the Windjammers’ Yacht Club, was the winning boat in the Performance Handicap Racing Formula class.
