Cherokee Posts 87% 2nd-Quarter Gain

The Cherokee Group reported earnings of $1.7 million for its second quarter ended May 31, up 87% over the same period a year ago. Sales rose 32%, to $25.3 million.
The fast-growing maker of clothing and shoes, based in North Hollywood, said the earnings and sales figures were new highs for the company.
Per share, second-quarter earnings were 30 cents, versus 16 cents a year ago, adjusted for a 2-for-1 stock split in April.
The company also said it plans to commence its franchising program before Aug. 31.
