Forward Tellis Frank scored 18 points and Brett McNeal added 17 as Western Kentucky defeated Hawaii Pacific, 89-74, in the opening game of the Chaminade tournament in Honolulu.
Leading, 69-64, with 8:40 to go, the Hilltoppers (9-3) outscored the Sea Warriors, an NAIA school, 12-2, to take a 79-76 lead with five minutes to go.
Guard Marty Moore scored 29 points to lead Chaminade, the host team, to a 97-79 victory over Hastings (Neb.) in the second game.
