Blacks Stage Peking Protest

United Press International

More than 200 black students shouting “Africa, freedom!” and waving their fists in the air barged through police cordons today in an illegal nine-mile march through Peking to protest alleged racism in China.

The students, angered over a hate letter sent to African embassies last week, marched about 2 1/2 hours from the Language Institute in northwest Peking to the Sudanese and Moroccan embassies in the northeast Sanlitun diplomatic quarter.

The letter said Chinese students will not “allow any Negro to hang about our universities and annoy Chinese girls.”

Filmed by Police

The fist-waving protesters, chanting “Africa, freedom! Africa, freedom!” barged through two police cordons. Police in buses accompanied the marchers and filmed them.

The more than 200 African and Caribbean students stopped briefly at the Sudanese Embassy, then marched to the nearby Moroccan Embassy after the Sudanese ambassador told them that Morocco is in charge of their interests.
