Very Subtle Wins Fifth Straight Race

Unbeaten Very Subtle led all the way Wednesday in winning the $63,700 Pasadena Stakes by five lengths before a crowd of 20,836 at Santa Anita for his fifth straight victory.
Very Subtle, ridden by Patrick Valenzuela and carrying high weight of 121 pounds, ran six furlongs on a muddy track in 1:09 4/5 and, as the 3-5 favorite, paid $3.20, $2.20 and $2.10.
Footy, ridden by Bill Shoemaker, was second, four lengths in front of Key Bid, and returned $2.60 and $2.20. Key Bid, ridden by Laffit Pincay, returned $2.20 to show.
