Adm. Carlisle A. H. Trost, the chief of naval operations, has rescinded a directive issued by his Pacific Fleet commander reducing physical fitness test standards for older sailors and officers, sources said. The directive, issued by Adm. James A. Lyons Jr. last week, was “an administrative error,” said one ranking Navy official who summarized Trost’s decision.
