Conductor Leopold Stokowski, contralto Marian Anderson and tenor Mario Lanza will be among the City of Philadelphia’s first honorees for its planned Walk of Fame, organized by the city’s Music Foundation. The city wants to honor those musicians who were born, lived in or contributed much to Philadelphia’s music scene. The pop world isn’t left out, though: Bill Haley, Bessie Smith, Dizzy Gillespie and Chubby Checker are on the list too.
