“Elvis: That’s the Way It Is.” MGM/UA. $69.95. The value of this 1970 theatrical release (directed by Denis Sanders) isn’t in the discouragingly stiff camera work and editing during Elvis’ Las Vegas concert sequences, and certainly not in the documentary-like coverage of the opening-night show (interviews with hotel execs and fans). The highlights are found in the rehearsal footage, demonstrating how very much Presley served as his own musical arranger and producer. These moments during the first half of “Elvis” are the heart of this color film and give us its only interesting insight into the complex, fascinating Elvis story. Information: (212) 408-0600.
