Inglewood : No Experiments on Strays

Beginning this week, stray animals captured in Inglewood will no longer be sold or used for medical research purposes.
At the urging of animal rights activists, the City Council passed a resolution last week asking the Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control Department to stop selling animals impounded on Inglewood streets for use in laboratory experiments.
The county sells 10% to 20% of the animals it captures to various laboratories for medical research, city officials said. The council’s action removes the 2,000 or so animals captured in Inglewood each year from the pool of strays that are available for research. Impounded animals are available for adoption by the public, but almost 70% have to be destroyed.
