Times Sports Section Rated Among Top 10

The Los Angeles Times sports section was ranked among the top 10 in the country in the daily category, according to recently released results of the annual Associated Press Sports Editors writing and section contest. The Times’ ranking was in the category for papers with circulation above 175,000.

Other Times work receiving honors--all honorable mentions--were the investigative series on Carl Scheer of the L.A. Clippers, Clipper finances and the Clipper-Sports Arena parking controversy by Sam McManis and Tom Farrey; a feature on Reggie Jackson by Tom Friend, and The Times Sunday sports section.

The Orange County Register was ranked among the top 10 sections in 175,000 and above in daily and special section categories and received an honorable mention in the Sunday category, and the L.A. Daily News was ranked among the top 10 in all three section categories in 50,000 to 175,000 circulation.
