Torrance : Finance Director Selected
After a yearlong search for a new finance director, Torrance chose Mary K. Giordano, now Long Beach city controller, for the $60,000 position.
Giordano, a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Maine, will replace William Dundore, who retired last year after 22 years of city service. In the interim, Asst. Finance Director Richard Rankin has been serving as finance director.
Rankin, who was an applicant for position, said he will “step back to my usual slot” as assistant finance director when Giordano begins work.
She is expected to take up her new position at the end of April.
The position of finance director is the only city job for which the city manager is required to seek council approval and the council on Tuesday approved City Manager LeRoy Jackson’s recommendation.
The finance director is responsible for preparing the city budget, keeping track of finances and overseeing city payments, including payroll.
