Point Loma High School’s Terri Mann and Oceanside’s Junior Seau were honored as The Times’ San Diego County basketball players of the year at the annual awards breakfast Sunday at the Anaheim Hilton.
Mann, player of the year for the third straight season, led Point Loma to its fourth consecutive state title. A 6-foot 4-inch All-American, she is undecided on her college plans.
Seau, who will attend USC on a football scholarship and may also play basketball, led Oceanside to the San Diego Section 2-A title.
Joe DeMaria of Vista was named the girls’ coach of the year. Vista went 27-3 and advanced to the San Diego Section 3-A final in its first postseason appearance. All three of Vista’s losses were to Point Loma.
San Dieguito’s Brian Daly was the boys’ coach of the year. The Mustangs reached the San Diego Section playoffs after finishing last in the Palomar League during the 1985-86 season.
