Lawrence Singleton, the convicted rapist who mutilated a Las Vegas teenager nine years ago, has been ordered by a Nevada judge to pay his victim $2.4 million. But the attorney for 23-year-old Mary Vincent said his client has little chance of collecting the full amount. “He may be penniless,” said attorney Keith Galliher. “I certainly don’t think he accrued anything while he was incarcerated.” Singleton was paroled last month after serving eight years of a 14-year prison sentence for the attack. But California State Department of Corrections officials have been unable to find a community that will accept the former seaman. Vincent’s family filed suit against Singleton five years ago but it remained in limbo because Singleton was in prison. Galliher said the judgment by District Judge Tom Foley, which can be renewed indefinitely every six years, was a “moral victory.”
