Del Mar has set Sept. 22 for an election on a plan to build a 125-room hotel at 15th Street and Camino Del Mar.
The City Council voted Wednesday to hold a special election on the proposed Hotel Del Mar. In February, voters approved a shopping center for an opposite corner at the same intersection by 41 votes.
The developer has offered to pay the city $2 million over 21 years for the right to build the hotel on the site of the former Del Mar Hotel, which was torn down in the late 1960s.
