Shellfish Poison Spurs Ban on Clam, Mussel Harvests

PORTLAND, Ore. — Harvesting of clams and mussels on the Oregon coast has been banned because of an outbreak of paralytic shellfish poison, state authorities said Thursday. People who ingest the poison, a form of “red tide,” in low amounts can experience numbness, dizziness and nausea.
