Fire Kills Two Women; Man Dies in Rescue Effort

ALTON, Ill. — Fire swept through a wood-frame apartment house early Friday, killing two women and the building’s owner, a man, 83, who had escaped but returned to the burning building in a rescue attempt, authorities said.
