PacifiCare Abandons Effort to Acquire Capitol Health Care

PacifiCare Health Systems said it has ended its bid to acquire Capitol Health Care, a 40,000-member nonprofit health maintenance organization in Oregon. The reason for canceling the proposed acquisition was not disclosed.
PacifiCare, based in Cypress, owns and operates HMOs in California, Oregon, Oklahoma and Texas, and operates a life and health insurance company licensed in 25 states.
