Pledge Change
Ever since the year 1892, the American people have recited the Pledge to the Flag as a solemn promise of allegiance to the United States.
In the course of history, a few changes have been made, with the latest coming in 1954, adding the words “ . . . under God.”
Perhaps, the time is now right to again change and correct the flag pledge to read “under the Constitution,” replacing the words “under God.”
It must be remembered that we live in a democratic republic, not a theocracy. Our country is structured under the Constitution, not under God.
On Sept. 16, we celebrated the 200th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution. Shouldn’t this year be the right time to give our Constitution its rightful place in our flag pledge?
