Anaheim Firm Sells 17 Computers for $200,000

General Automation Inc. received an order valued at about $200,000 for 17 of its Zebra business computers from Sohio Oil Co.
The Anaheim computer company has also announced a new top-of-the-line model in its Zebra series that allows up to 256 terminals to be hooked into a central computer--double the number of terminals that can be handled by the company’s current top model. The Zebra 8830, which costs $215,000 to more than $350,000, “introduces significant new features and technologies” to the Zebra line and “enhances growth potential for Zebra,” said company Chairman Leonard N. Mackenzie.
The new system will use the ultra-fast Motorola MC68030 computer chip.
General Automation said it has orders so far for at least four 8830 systems. Company officials said sales from the 8830 system “will be an important factor” in the firm’s growth in the third and fourth quarters.
