Mead’s income rose 285% to $97.4 million for the third quarter. The Dayton, Ohio, company said this year’s quarter included gains from the sale of six corrugating container plants and Mead’s 50% interest in a liner board mill. Revenue for the quarter was up 33% to $1.11 billion. There was also a 33% gain to $54.6 million in operating income for the quarter. Mead said the earnings improvement reflects strong demand and solid operating performance across all product lines. In addition, the company is beginning to benefit from the restructuring implemented over the past several years.
