Local News in Brief : Retiring Official to Get Bonus
- Share via
El Segundo City Manager Arthur Jones will be paid the equivalent of three months salary as a bonus when he leaves his job on Christmas Day.
Jones, who has been city manager for nearly 20 years, will receive $17,400 under an agreement approved by the City Council. His medical and dental premiums also will be paid for three months.
Jones, 58, announced last month that he was retiring to devote more time to his family and other personal interests. He retired once before in 1985 because of poor health, but council members persuaded him to return to his job a year later when they fired his replacement, Nicholas Romaniello.
City officials say an interim city manager will be hired to replace Jones so council members will have more time to pick a permanent successor.
