Forest Fires in China

BEIJING — A series of forest fires has caused widespread damage in mountainous areas of east China’s Anhui province, the Liberation Daily newspaper reported. The paper said 12 fires since Dec. 9 have burned more than 320 acres of land, more than half of which was forested. The report that appeared Monday did not say whether there were any casualties in the fires.
