Meanwhile, Mayor Maureen O’Connor’s office has been deluged with dozens of letters from applicants for the new Cultural Arts Commission. Normally, “we’re out looking for people to participate” on public commissions, said the mayor’s spokesman, Paul Downey.
The only other commission that has attracted more interest is the Stadium Authority, Downey said. He estimated that the mayor and City Council will be ready to vote on a slate of candidates by the end of April.
O’Connor will appoint all 15 cultural commission members, Downey said. At least eight of the members will be selected from nominees offered by city council members. The full council will vote on the mayor’s appointments.
