Federal prosecutors accused Goodyear Tire & Rubber of overcharges and other fraud in the pricing of a device used on Army and Navy bombs. U.S. Attorney Rudolph W. Giuliani announced that he was taking over a lawsuit against Goodyear that was originally filed by a Goodyear competitor. A “whistle-blower” law allows the government to take over such suits if they are found to have merit. Giuliani’s suit asks for at least $21 million in damages under the False Claims Act and common law. In addition, the government is seeking $10,000 for each unspecified false claim.
