Leslie H. Turner; ‘Captain Easy’ Artist
Leslie H. Turner, the artist who wrote and illustrated the “Captain Easy” adventure comic strip for 27 years. Considered one of the top magazine illustrators of the 1920s and 1930s, Turner was best remembered for his comic strip, which at its peak appeared in more than 600 daily newspapers. The strip addressed subjects such as alcoholism as early as 1949, and won praise for being scientifically correct. Turner wrote and illustrated “Captain Easy” until he retired in 1970. In Orlando, Fla., on Sunday.
