Viktor Tikhanov, coach of the Soviet national hockey team, resigned his position only a few days after coaching the squad to the Olympic gold medal, the Sovetsky Sport newspaper reported.

There was no immediate indication if the resignation was accepted by the State Sports Committee, the governing body of sport in the Soviet Union.
