Orange Teachers Back at Work

More than 600 striking teachers in the Orange Unified School District returned to work today after state Supt. of Public Instruction Bill Honig sent a telegram urging them to meet with school district officials and a state mediator.
In a telegram sent to teachers and district officials, Honig said a one-day “cooling-off period” might give both sides a chance to end the 15-month contract dispute. The strike has affected three days of classes, with school administrators and substitutes staffing classrooms. On Friday, about 6,500 students, mostly junior and senior high students, missed school.
