PREP FOOTBALL : South Coast League : Middle Quarters Carry Irvine

Irvine High School scored 14 points in both the second and third quarters en route to a 28-14 South Coast League football victory over Dana Hills.
The victory came in front of a Dana Hills homecoming crowd of 3,800 and keeps Irvine (6-3, 2-2) alive in the race for a playoff spot.
Dana Hills (3-5-1, 2-2) scored first as Steve Penney capped a 10-play, 69-yard drive with a 16-yard touchdown run to make it 7-0. Penney ran for 41 yards in 5 carries in the drive and finished as the leading Dolphin rusher with 55 yards in 12 carries.
Irvine responded early in the second quarter when Shad Vickers scored from the 8 to tie the game.
Irvine managed to take a 14-7 halftime lead with just 39 seconds left in the half when quarterback Dave Lincoln beat a Dana Hills blitz and threw 20-yard scoring pass to Randy Martin.
Irvine was never behind after that. It got 2 more touchdowns in the third quarter to take a 28-7 lead.
Pat White scored midway through the third quarter on a 10-yard run, and with 3 minutes left in the period, Lincoln scored on a bootleg from the 1.
