World : U.N. Takes Action Against Drugs

VIENNA — Forty-three countries today signed a new U.N. convention against drug trafficking that will enable them to freeze and confiscate bank accounts and extradite suspects.
The convention, when ratified by the necessary 20 nations of the 106 backing it, will commit signatories to toughening their laws against drug dealing and providing mutual legal assistance in fighting international narcotics rings. U.S. Atty. Gen. Dick Thornburgh signed for the United States.
