Canyon High basketball player Jamil Austin and 3 other teen-agers were arrested Friday and booked on suspicion of stealing more than $1,200 in merchandise from a Canyon Country hardware store, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies confirmed.
Austin, 18, was released on his own recognizance, deputies said. Both Austin and Canyon Coach Greg Hayes declined comment.
Austin, a senior swingman who is averaging a team-high 15 points a game, missed Friday night’s Golden League opener in which Canyon upset visiting Antelope Valley, 64-48.
