Alhambra : 23 Neighborhoods Rezoned

Twenty-three neighborhoods in the city have been downzoned so that instead of apartments and condominiums, only single-family homes and duplexes can be built on most parcels.
The zone change was made as part of an effort, begun in 1986 with an amended General Plan, to reduce the city’s population potential from 120,000 to 82,300. The new zone change would further reduce the city’s maximum population, said Michael Paules, community development director. He said it has not been determined what the new limit will be.
The city recommended the downzoning “to try to preserve the character of established lower-density neighborhoods,” said Paules.
The neighborhoods are scattered throughout the city, said Paules. A map designating them is available at the city’s community development office.
