Josh Lowery, a former San Diego State guard and this season’s leading scorer for the University of Portland basketball team, has been placed on disciplinary probation for the remainder of the academic year after he allegedly struck a female student in the face.
According to the woman, who filed a complaint with the police, Lowery, 22, hit her in the face at a party after the Pilots defeated San Francisco on Feb. 11.
Portland Coach Larry Steele suspended Lowery after the incident. The university’s decision makes Lowery ineligible for basketball and baseball.
As a sophomore at SDSU in 1986-87, Lowery averaged 11.8 points before he was suspended for hitting someone during a pickup basketball game.
