Ueberroth Seeks 3-Year Freeze on Ticket Prices

Commissioner Peter Ueberroth, in his farewell address to major league baseball club owners Friday at Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., asked them to freeze ticket prices for the next three years.
Ueberroth, who leaves office March 31, based his request on the fact that major league baseball made a $100-million profit in 1988 and recently signed a record $1.06-billion, four-year television deal with CBS.
“It was a request, and I asked them to get back to me in three weeks,” he said. “A few (owners) said it was the right thing.”
