Sneaky Andy: A copy of Salman Rushdie’s controversial “The Satanic Verses” was at Andy Rooney’s right elbow during his “60 Minutes” segment last Sunday on CBS. Rooney had bet his editor $10 that no one would notice, but an eagle-eyed Washington Post reporter spotted it and called Rooney. “I didn’t want to hit anybody over the head with it,” Rooney explained. “I wanted to make some small statement--I was on the side of the good guys.” Executive producer Don Hewitt recently caught Rooney trying to sneak photos of former colleague Diane Sawyer into the picture, but reportedly he didn’t pick up on the Rushdie book.
