Beverly Hills : Teachers Ask for 12% Raise

The teachers union on Tuesday submitted its initial contract proposal for the 1989-90 school year, requesting a 12% salary increase to become effective July 1. The proposal also requests full family medical and dental coverage starting July 1.

Full-time teachers asked that contact with students, including supervision, be limited to 20.8 hours per week, and that no teacher be required to teach a class beginning before 8 a.m. or extending after 3:15 p.m.

The Beverly Hills Unified School District will submit its first proposal in two to four weeks, said Walther R. Puffer, assistant superintendent for personnel/pupil services. Bargaining between the Beverly Hills Education Assn., the teachers union, and the district will begin two weeks after that, he said.
