Spring Sports Roundup : Notre Dame Duo No-Hits Louisville

Becca Berline and Lisa Asahara combined on a no-hitter and allowed only one batter to reach base as Notre Dame High defeated Louisville, 14-0, in a San Fernando Valley League softball opener at Louisville on Monday.

Berline (5-4), a junior right-hander, pitched the first four innings, striking out four. Asahara pitched the final three innings and struck out three. Neither walked a batter and the only Louisville runner to reach base did so on an error.

In another San Fernando Valley League opener:

Chaminade 14, St. Genevieve 2--Kerry Corcoran had three hits and five RBIs, including a three-run double in the fourth, to lead Chaminade at St. Genevieve.

Kathy Regan (10-3) walked one and struck out four in four innings for Chaminade (10-3, 1-0).

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Harvard d. La Salle, 15-1, 15-6, 15-12--Rick Osterloh had 14 kills in 14 attempts and added eight stuff blocks as the Saracens won the San Fernando Valley League match at La Salle.

Chaminade d. Bell-Jeff, 15-6, 15-7, 15-13--Chris Bruckner had seven kills, and Tim Hayes and Fran Reyes had six kills each for host Chaminade (7-4, 2-1) in a San Fernando Valley League match.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Flintridge Sacred Heart 70, Chaminade 76--Freshmen Michele Feigenbaum and Jeni Goldberg each won two events in the nonleague meet at Flintridge. Fiegenbaum won the 500-yard freestyle (5:47.44), Goldberg won the 100-yard backstroke (1:17.15) and both swam legs on the victorious 200-yard medley relay team (2:06.67).

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Biola 2, The Master’s 0--Biola junior right-hander Tim Worrell struck out 14--including seven in a row from the third to fifth innings--to tie a season high in a nonconference game at Biola.

Worrell finished with a four-hitter and no walks. Biola improved to 14-17-2; Master’s dropped to 13-23-1.
