WASHINGTON — President Bush will hold his first prime-time televised news conference in the East Room of the White House at 5 p.m. PDT Thursday, it was announced today.
White House Press Secretary Marlin Fitzwater said the session might well go beyond the 30 minutes usually alloted for presidential news conferences. He said Bush is “a President who has trouble confining himself to 30 minutes” in question-and-answer sessions.
In his 4 1/2 months in office, Bush has had numerous press conferences, most of them on short notice in the White House press briefing room. Fitzwater said there have been 16 to 23 press conferences, depending on how they’re counted.
